My Experience As a Medical Assistant

January 26th, 2012

Speaking from experience, I can tell you that working as a medical assistant is a very fulfilling job. I’ve worked in a small family practice office for about 5 years now. I was originally hired as a receptionist, but I was in the process of taking medical assistant training classes, and when I graduated I got a promotion and a pay raise. Now I work mainly with patients, preparing the exam rooms, taking blood pressure, temperature and pulse, and preparing each patient for the doctor. I still do some administrative tasks, but it’s mostly related to patient medical record upkeep. And I do on occasion cover for the receptionist when she’s out sick.

When people ask me what I do I’m proud to tell them I’m a certified medical assistant. I absolutely love what I do! I get to help people everyday. We get a lot of sick, scared and nervous patients in our office, and I have a talent for easing their nerves and putting a smile on their faces. That brings me a great deal of joy and satisfaction.

I never considered myself to be a good student, but because of the experience I’ve had as a medical assistant I’m considering going back to school to get a nursing degree. Instead of feeling uncertain about my future, I’m confident that I will always have a good job. If you’re thinking about becoming a medical assistant I highly recommend it!
